AND I WON'T GIVE YOU HELL
NAME: Évelyn Chantelle Faustine
AGE: thirty-two years
GENDER: female
SPECIES: Loup-Garou
CLASS: Captain of the Guard
HOBBIES: predisposed to a sense of duty, Évelyn knows only the satisfactions of her own ambition. The only thing this warrior could ever consider a ‘hobby’ is her training. Well known for her long hours of practice, her dedication often rewards the faye with a swift and effective victory.
APPEARANCE: Évelyn bears a remarkable muscle structure even for a Garou. Skin stretched taught with very firm accents, she is a rightful definition of the word ‘fit’. Slender with a slight feminine build, she has a pronounced hourglass figure but a masculine arrogance. She carries herself with a degree of confidence that could rival the king himself, knowing full well her own abilities and placing great faith in her skill with a sword. Emblazoned, orange eyes burn like embers set inside her pale skin. They’re often rumored to be the eyes of Lucifer himself, what with Évelyn’s overbearing personality.
Cornflower hair falls in gentle waves across her back, shining golden in the right sunlight. She’s a dazzling beauty, but one of very little patience. Most often seen with a scowl, Évelyn’s sense of charm is lost to many in her raging hatred for mankind. She’s harbors a deep-seated wrath that is plainly evident in every expression she displays – from one of anger to even her most ‘kindly’ smiles.
As a wolf, Évelyn retains the same muscular build and agile speed as she possesses in human form. Her coat is a composition of whites, browns, and blacks that mix and blend in a mysterious fashion. The scars across her back become very obvious without clothing and Évelyn is known to lash out at those who remark on them. Brilliant, pearly white fangs are of a length unusual for the average wolf and even her height seems disproportionate in this shape. Tall and with a superior structure, if Évelyn had been born a normal lupine, she almost certainly would have been the alpha of a pack.
In all three forms, the captain of the guard is known to wear a simple chain necklace. No one knows it’s true meaning, but she hold this possession close to her heart at all times. It’s largely misshapen and visibly worn, but Évelyn never removes it from around her neck.
PERSONALITY: Angry would be the word that best describes Évelyn’s personality. She harbors a deep hatred for anyone and everyone that gets to close to her and she’s more than willing to spill blood in order to keep her secrets. Not one for small talk, the captain is rumored to be a bit of a seething bitch. She’s quick to strike any who protest her authority and seems to resent the male gender in particular.
She hates children and animals – anything dependent, really – and scoffs at politics. Brilliant in the ways of warfare, her long history on the battlefield is well known all across the country. Évelyn was trained as a palace guard and is well equipped to handle even the most difficult of situations. She’s a masterful tactician and a supremely skilled swordsman. She knows well her capabilities and limitations and is quick to process and utilize anything that would give her the advantage in a fight.
Quite witty when she wants to be, the warrior woman is otherwise a very silent, scathing individual prone to mood swings and grudges. She despises humanity for its injustice and is a strong supporter for revolution. In her opinion, the only way to stop Claudette’s madness is simply to kill him. She often contemplates assassination but, surprisingly, has developed a strong respect for the mayor of Ville de Kadence. She follows his orders with a begrudging attitude, but never truly questions his authority. In her mind, he is the balance for what she recognizes in herself as flaws.
Évelyn has never experienced love or romance of any kind. She detests being touched and abhors the thought of motherhood. The only thing this soldier has felt any sense of affection for is her sword, which she cherishes above all else in the world. She’s had the same blade since she was enlisted in his majesty’s army and, even though it’s quite old, she’s managed to keep it in pristine condition. Her sword is her very life and she’s vowed to die on the battlefield with the only friend she’s ever truly known.
HISTORY: Évelyn was born in the northernmost regions of the French countryside to a village that celebrated a long history of pagan philosophy. Linked in multiple ways to ancient druid practices, it wasn’t long in the young girl’s life before this questionable lifestyle was discovered.
The French army came at the bequest of the Catholic Church to eliminate what they regarded as an abomination to the Lord. Setting the cottages ablaze and slaying those that tried to flee, Évelyn watched as her own mother and father were gutted like swine in the streets of her home. She would have been sentenced to the same fate if her parents’ killer had not take pity on the tender five-year-old.
Ordering one of his men to protect and control the young orphan, Évelyn could do nothing to help as her village and neighbors were destroyed. She hated the man that had taken from her everything she knew, but as the horsemen rode back to the French capitol – Évelyn forced to ride with her new, self-proclaimed ‘guardian’ – she listened to the horrors of which her people were accused. General Baudouin explained the politics of heresy and filled the child’s mind with thoughts of treachery to God.
Managing to convince her of her heritage’s wrongdoing, Baudouin pledged to help her right her life and redeem herself in their Lord and Savior’s eyes. She was enrolled in her guardian’s war host and began training for a life of warfare. Despite their unorthodox introduction, Évelyn came to love and respect Baudouin as the father she had never had the privilege of knowing.
She did all that she could to prove she was worthy of the second chance she had been given and discovered a passionate rage deep inside her that drove her to excel. Angry at her parents for their betrayal to God, angry at God for allowing their betrayal, and angry because she couldn’t understand their choices, Évelyn fed off of her own rage. She made her lord Baudouin proud and one night, he decided to confess to her his darkest carnal desires.
Telling her that he loved her and that she had indeed redeemed herself in the Lord’s eyes, he tried to coerce her into a relationship. Barely sixteen years old at the time, Évelyn was appalled and terrified by her caretaker’s advances. Enraged by her rejection and “ungratefulness”, he beat the young girl senseless and tried to sell her into slavery. Fortunately, another officer interceded on her behalf. Because of the skill and potential she showed with a blade, Commander Célestin had her placed in the service of the French military. She was released from status as Baudouin’s ward and free to be her own person. A knight by her own right.
From that point on, Évelyn trusted no one and threw herself entirely into her training. From sun up to sun down she would be seen on the training field, practicing and honing her skills. She was superior to those far older than she with a blade and very quickly rose in the ranks of His Majesty’s battalion.
However, her life would take another drastic turn at the age of twenty-one when she transformed for the first time in her life. Right in middle of the battlefield, Évelyn became aware of a seizing tremor that soon overtook her body completely. She collapsed and shifted her shape in a pile of bodies – unnoticed to her great fortune.
Frightened by what had happened, Évelyn fled the battlefield and disappeared from her life in the army forever. She became a mercenary and experienced many different kinds of wars, raids, and general battles. Her reputation spread far and wide and eventually reached the ears of her old master, Baudouin. Seeking her out, the old man attempted to apologize for his misdeeds but Évelyn wouldn’t hear it. Always quick to anger, Baudouin lunged at his adoptive daughter with his sword unsheathed and met a gruesome death at the end of the maiden’s blade.
Horrified, Évelyn again fled from her life and became a loner. She worked as a body guard for varying nobles and traveling merchants before finally hearing a rumor about a fabled ‘city of wolves’. With nothing in her life to hold her back, Évelyn set out for Ville de Kadence and was greeted – for the first time in her life – with a family. Taking the younger Garou under his wing, the village’s mayor – Benedict – helped her adapt to small town life and realized her potential as captain of the guard.
Finally, Évelyn had found a place to call home. A true home.
